When Is the Best Time To Book Your Spring Photography Session?
tl;dr… in Iowa City, the flowering trees are predicted to enter their prime by mid-April – now is the time to reserve your spring photography session! (click HERE to reserve your photography session)
I’m a gardener and for years I’ve kept a little calendar of gardening dates. Every year, I write down significant dates such as when the first crocus blooms, what day the magnolias make their debut, when I plant the garden… and so on. This has always been something I refer to when I’m wearing out on winter and looking forward to the sunny days ahead but it’s also turning out to be a great resource for keeping track of the best dates for floral-filled spring photography sessions – my two worlds colliding!

Well folks, the crocuses here in Iowa City officially started blooming as of March 3rd (they’re actually two days behind where they were last year) and by mid-April, the grass will be luxuriously green and the flowering trees (oh, the trees!) should be in full bloom. In other words, book your spring session now before my calendar fills up and bonus: you’ll have a few weeks to start thinking about and pulling together outfits!
If you’re looking to snag those primetime spring florals, then from what I’m seeing between my previous years’ photography and my garden calendar, is the flowering trees should begin their prime spring color in Iowa City right around that second week of April. Of course, it’ll undoubtedly be glorious leading up to that point too but over the past five years it looks like there’s reliably wonderful tree blossoms entering their prime beginning April 15-18 and progressively getting better from that point on as more and more blossoms open and then transition over to green foliage.
Disclaimer: this is Iowa, so don’t hold me to any of these weather/flower bloom-time predictions 😆
